Abigail Penfold is a muralist, painter, and designer whose work brings vibrant storytelling into public and community spaces. Her practice blends illustration, realism, and bold graphic elements to create murals that celebrate the natural environment, local identity, and shared human experience.
Penfold earned her B.F.A. in drawing and painting from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 2011. Early in her career she worked as a painting assistant to a world-renowned trompe l’oeil muralist, where she developed skills in large-scale painting, installation, and the craft of creating immersive visual environments.
Now based in Washington State, Penfold focuses on murals, paintings, and design work that combine expressive color, layered forms, and narrative imagery. Inspired by the landscapes and ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest, her work often incorporates elements of nature, wildlife, and regional stories. Through public art, she aims to create welcoming spaces that inspire connection, curiosity, and a deeper sense of place.
